Swamp VillageReport

English:Swamp Village · Locations

Two small villages in The Swamp, run and guarded by the Swampers themselves, each with a Big Shop and a stretch of riceweed fields. They are among the very few places in the wetlands where you can safely lie down and bandage yourself.

Swamp Village does not refer to one village but to two — a pair of small settlements scattered through The Swamp, each holding only a handful of buildings and a little resource base. Both are run and protected by the Swampers themselves, which gives them a very simple role in the least law-abiding region on the map: rest stops where the player can heal in relative safety.

Both can be found by exploration, or revealed in one go by acquiring and reading the Map of the Swamps.

NoteThe Map of the Swamps reveal table lists "Swamp Village" six times, more than the two the wiki article describes. The two data sources disagree; trust whichever village you actually walk into.

The northwest village

The northern one sits at the northwestern edge of The Swamp, right up against the Stenn Desert. It is the better defended of the pair: it is fenced in all the way round, with a makeshift gate for access, specifically to keep out the swamp's less forgiving residents.

The southwest village

The southern one lies southwest of Shark. The contrast with its northern counterpart is obvious: it has no fence and no gate, and some of its buildings stand directly on the water.

Its position has tactical value — it is the exact midway point between Shark and the Swamped Lab. If you are going after that ancient lab ringed by blood spiders, this is the only place on the road to refill water, restock bandages and drop a pack.

What is here

Both villages have a Big Shop and a hashish dealer. Swamper traders deal in two things and two things only: fish and hashish.

Per this site's vendor data, the trader that occupies Swamp Village is the Deadcat Big Shop — 120 items maximum stock, restocked every 24 hours, open by day only. Its range spans supplies, headgear and raw materials, which is a remarkably full shelf for a village of a few houses:

Medical and travel: Basic First Aid Kit, Standard First Aid Kit, Advanced First Aid Kit, Splint Kit, Skeleton Repair Kit, Authentic Skeleton Repair Kit, Sleeping Bag, Bull Backpack, Garru Backpack, Scavenger's Basket, Trader's Wooden Backpack, Wooden Backpack

Food and drink: Bread, Dried Meat, Dried Fish, Cooked Vegetables, Gohan, Rice Bowl, Greenfruit, Foodcube, Ration Pack, Meatwrap, Chewsticks, Dustwich, Sake, Grog, Bloodrum, Cactus Rum, Water, Water Jug

Headgear: Bandana, Black Bandana, Sandogasa, Rattan Hat, Tricorn Hat, Iron Hat, Tagelmust, Hachigane, Tin Can, Masked Helmet, Visored Helmet, Armoured Hood

Raw materials: Riceweed, Hemp, Cotton, Wheatstraw, Iron Plates, Fuel, Tools

TipThe list carries both Riceweed and Hemp, and that is the whole economic model of a Swamp Village: the riceweed in the fields feeds the village, and the hemp in the fields becomes hashish sold to the outside. The price the outside world charges for this is that both goods are illegal in most towns.

Who lives here

The Swampers are the collective name for the inhabitants of The Swamp — the cast out, the escaped, the convicted, forming a society where disputes are settled by fists. There are no nobles here, no priests, and no taxes. A letter written by a swamp resident puts it plainly: the only law here is the law of nature, and the strongest gets it all.

The cost is written into the same sentence: street fights are ordinary, and the reasons for them can be too trivial to count as reasons. A Swamp Village is the mildest product of that logic — no institution protects you, but there are guards, and the guards do not belong to a gang.
