Suspicious SettlerReport
English:Suspicious Settler · Characters
The only named survivor in the Gatherer Village out in Dreg. The first thing he does is beg you not to attack; if you don't, he tells you how bandits raided his home, and then sells you his fish.
The Suspicious Settler lives in the Eastern Gatherer Village west of Mongrel and belongs to the Deadcat faction — refugees who lost their capital to the Cannibals and have survived on fishing ever since. He keeps two named pets: the Beloved Goat and the Settler's Pup.
He begs you not to attack
Talk to him and the first thing he does is beg you not to attack him.
If you agree, he tells you how his home was raided by bandits. If you go further and offer him protection, he will sell you his fish. That is the only trade in this village — the Gatherer Village has no shops at all.
You can also attack him
The game gives you that option too, and here is what follows:
- Both of his pets immediately come to his defence.
- The nearby Deadcat fishermen will not fight back, but they will run off shouting "SURRENDER!" while carrying his body away to rescue him.
- Hostile dialogue choices cost United Cities relations: −3 for robbing him, −5 for attacking him.
He cannot fight
His combat sheet is essentially empty: Strength 15–25, and every other attribute and skill sitting between −4 and 6 (randomised by 5). What actually carries him are two working skills — Labouring 50 and Engineer 20–30. He is a labourer, not a fighter.
His armour is Shoddy grade (5% chance of Standard).
The state of the village
The Eastern Gatherer Village has three residential buildings, no walls and no guards, and is regularly swarmed by local Fogmen and Holy Nation Outlaws. Further west there is a second Gatherer Village, where the surviving Deadcat fishermen chose to fence themselves in entirely and shut the world out behind a locked makeshift gate.
In other words, what is "suspicious" about this man is not some mystery in the lore. It is his situation.
