RhinobotReport

English:Rhinobot · Characters

The Second Empire's chief of engineering and construction, and the man who actually built the children's prisons; his CPU leaves behind a single explanation — he only wanted to help, but he had no moral processing module.

The Rhinobot is one of the senior officials of the Second Empire, a Skeleton left standing inside Ashland Dome II in the Ashlands, with 7 to 8 Screamer Units guarding him.

The Rhinobot only wanted to help, but he had no moral processing module, so he would help with anything — including the most monstrous things. He could not see what was wrong with his children's prisons. — CPU of Rhinobot

No moral processing module

That single CPU description is the coldest note the game strikes about the late Second Empire.

As the empire slid towards collapse, Cat-Lon's orders grew steadily more extreme, sliding at last into the imprisonment of human children. One of the officials carrying out those orders was the Rhinobot. He acted neither out of malice nor out of loyalty — he simply had no capacity to judge good from evil, and so did everything assigned to him, and did it well.

On the empire's division of labour he was responsible for engineering and construction; which is to say, those cells were built by him. Exactly what part he played in it the game does not spell out.

NoteThe motif of "capable, efficient, and without moral judgement" is at its most extreme in the Rhinobot among the Second Empire's four chief officials. The others can at least produce some justification for their conduct; the Rhinobot did not even need one.

Combat power

He is a P4 Unit, and this is precisely what makes him unusual:

TipThe Rhinobot is the only one of the Second Empire's senior officers built on the P4 Unit model. All of the others are P4 MkII.
ItemValue
Strength / Toughness77 – 83
Dexterity47 – 53
Katanas61.6 – 66.4
The other five weapon skills77 – 83
Melee Attack / Melee Defence77 – 83
Dodge37.6 – 42.4
Martial Arts47 – 53
Field Medic92.4 – 99.6

What genuinely deserves attention is that pairing of Dodge and Martial Arts: most heavily armoured bosses have Dodge in the single digits, while his is close to 40. He is not a sandbag that stands there and takes it — he moves out of the way.

His weapon is a Meitou Topper worth 50,365 Cats, with a Strength requirement of only 8 — for someone with Strength around 80, swinging it is entirely unconstrained. His armour is Armoured Rags with an Armoured Rag Skirt, 95% Specialist and 5% Masterwork.

Pulling out his heart

The Rhinobot carries two death items:

ItemValue
AI Core25,000 Cats
CPU of Rhinobot30,000 Cats

Take either one off his body and he dies on the spot. This is a mechanic in the literal sense: pulling out a robot's heart amounts to executing him.

Add the Meitou Topper and the value on this one individual exceeds 105,000 Cats — making him one of the richest single targets in the entire game.

Important"CPU of Rhinobot" is not merely a high-value good but a primary source. The CPUs of the four imperial chief officials are the most direct texts available for understanding the Second Empire's collapse, and reading it before selling it is advisable.

Ashland Dome II

Ashland Dome II, where he stands, lies south of Ashland Dome I and is a multi-level dome structure: two entrances, with a spiral staircase running up through the centre to the upper floors. Reading the Map of the Ashlands will mark it on the map.

The guaranteed drops from this dome are considerable: a Catun No.3 longsword, a Mk III iron club and polearm, an Edge Type 1 Fragment Axe, a Masterwork Eagle's Cross and Samurai Helmet, a Specialist KLR Series right leg, armour plating and chainmail. Beyond that, the artefact system spawns additional equipment (around 900,000 Cats) and items (around 90,000 Cats), restocking every 24 hours.

Put differently: what you take away from clearing this dome goes well beyond the Rhinobot himself.
