What a Lost Library looks like after somebody smashed it. The walls are still standing, the knowledge is gone, and the floor is covered in Damaged Books — the bluntest sentence in the game about things that cannot be recovered.
Library Ruins are the remains of a library destroyed long ago. The walls are still up; nothing of what those walls once held survives.
They are almost certainly the destroyed version of the Lost Library — same nominal owner in the Second Empire, same old-world repository of knowledge. The only difference is that one still has something locked inside and the other has nothing at all.
Where they are
Two Library Ruins are known: one on the shore of Shun, and one in The Hook.
What is here
The short answer: Damaged Books, scattered across the floor in bulk.
No guards, no spiders, no machines. Nothing here needs defending, because nothing here is worth defending.
Why you would come
The practical value is close to zero. A Damaged Book is worth 6 Cats — you cannot fill a backpack with them and buy a decent meal.
Their value is narrative. Most ancient sites in Kenshi still hold their contents because something is guarding them: Security Spiders, Skeletons, acid rain. Library Ruins are one of the few places nobody guarded, so nothing is left. Walking in tells you exactly one thing — somebody here tried to preserve something, and they failed.
