Legion ScoutReport

English:Legion Scout · Characters

The Skeleton Legion's scouts, and one of the few ranks in that army that still has a head. Stealth 60 and Ranged 60, carrying Oldworld Bows through the ash — and once Cat-Lon is dead, the force they travel with gets bigger.

The Legion Scout is a member of the Skeleton Legion, found only in the Ashlands.

Within this army they belong to the half that still has heads. The Legion breaks into three ranks — Legion, Legion Scout, and the far more numerous Legion Thrall. The first two are Skeleton Log-Head MKIIs and have not been enthralled; the last are the decapitated, rebuilt, headless units.

That dividing line is itself the Second Empire's verdict, written into the roster: the ones giving orders kept their heads; the ones carrying them out did not.

How they spawn

Legion Scouts appear in two ways:

SquadCompositionWeightCondition
Skeleton Legion Scouts2–9 Legion Scouts1—
Skeleton Legion Force (Pre)7–22 Legions + 2–7 Legion Scouts2Cat-Lon alive
Skeleton Legion Force (Post)12–22 Legions + 2–7 Legion Scouts4Cat-Lon dead

Operating alone they usually move in pairs; folded into a larger force, they are that force's eyes.

ImportantKilling Cat-Lon does not make the Ashlands safer. It makes the Legion bigger. The force a scout travels with runs seven to twenty-two Legions while he lives; after his death it starts at twelve, and the spawn weight of that squad doubles from 2 to 4. It is one of the most counter-intuitive world states in the game: kill the emperor and the army that was keeping him contained expands.

How they fight

The Legion Scout's stat spread is nothing like a Legion's:

StatValue
Strength40
Combat stats50
Stealth stats60
Ranged stats60
Unarmed25

Stealth 60 with Ranged 60 is a scout's build, not a line infantryman's. They carry Oldworld Bow MkI and MkII on their backs and a Short-Cleaver in melee, wearing Ancient Samurai Armour over a coloured Armoured Rag Skirt at Standard grade with a 15% chance of High.

In practice the implication is plain: out in the ash, they see you first and they shoot first.
