LandbatReport
English:Landbat · Creatures
A bat that walks on its wings. Only 30 in every stat, but it cannot be staggered — and Stobe's Gamble spawns swarms of 18 to 30 of them.
The Landbat is a pack predator of the continent's southeastern corner. Its name states the most counter-intuitive thing about it: this is a bat that does not fly.
Appearance and identification
Light fur, an upward-curled snout, and a pair of forelegs shaped like wings — wings it uses not for flight but for walking on the ground. The four-legged gait makes them instantly recognisable.
They move in packs, most often 1 to 10 strong.
Where they live
| Zone | Density |
|---|---|
| Stobe's Gamble | Primary habitat, spawns swarms of 18–30 |
| Flats Lagoon | Scattered |
| Stobe's Garden | Scattered |
| The Crags | Scattered |
| The Pits | Scattered |
They patrol mostly far from civilisation, which is the single biggest reason their real danger is lower than their profile suggests — most players never cross one on a normal travel route.
Combat threat
On paper a Landbat is an ordinary mid-tier beast: 30 in every attribute with a ±3 spread, 95–251 blood. Two things make it worse than that number.
First, it cannot be staggered. Like most animals, Landbats are impervious to being staggered. You cannot interrupt their attack rhythm by landing hits.
Second, almost all of their damage is cut and pierce. The formula is Cut = 18 + roughly 0.78–0.90 × (Martial Arts + Dexterity), where the 18 is minimum cut damage of 13 plus 5 points of pierce; the blunt component is negligible. Unarmoured characters get shredded, and pierce ignores much of what armour quality would otherwise absorb.
They do have two clear weaknesses:
- A combat move speed multiplier of 0.7 — they slow down the moment a fight starts. Combined with a base speed of only 7–18 mph, disengaging and running is a real option.
- Zero extra attack slots — only the default number of characters can engage one at a time. That is bad news for the player: against a large pack you cannot mass bodies onto a single target to bring it down fast.
Drops and use
Landbats are a decent-value hunt in the southeast, with four death items each:
| Item | Quantity |
|---|---|
| Animal Skin | ×6 |
| Animal Teeth | ×4 |
| Raw Meat | ×2 |
| Foul Raw Meat | ×3 |
The hide and teeth carry the value; the meat goes straight to the kitchen. As with every animal, taking the death items off a knocked-out individual kills it on the spot.
What it means in practice
The Landbat is the sort of creature whose data sheet looks unremarkable until you meet one. A single bat is nothing; the problem is always numbers and terrain.
The good news is that they are slow and live where nobody goes — in almost every situation you can simply choose not to fight. If you do want to hunt them, pick the scattered zones on the fringes of Flats Lagoon or in The Crags, and stay out of the Stobe's Gamble swarms.
