Doctor ChungReport
English:Doctor Chung · Characters
The surgeon who harvests organs for the Twinblades, stuck in a Swamp bar with nowhere to go. Two hundred Cats buys you cosmetic surgery; the right conversation walks him straight out of the job.
Doctor Chung is a recruitable unique character, functionally equivalent to a medic, but with a whole set of dialogue that belongs to him alone. His trade is organ harvesting — which he does for the Twinblades, and unwillingly. To find him, go to the bar in Mud Town in the Swamp, or the bar in Shark.
A business that has been smashed up
Chung's situation is put most clearly in his own words: the Twinblades keep wrecking his surgery and hounding him for organs, and lately he simply cannot produce that much stock. He talks about giving them a smack in the face the moment they let their guard down, but in practice he can do nothing at all — and his melee statistics honestly reflect that.
Ask him why he does not just leave, and the answer is the weightiest line in the whole conversation:
I'm a doctor, there ain't nothin' for me in the outlands... An' I ain't interested in moving cities neither. Let's just say my 'activities' have pissed off a lot of the wrong people.
In other words, he is not tied down by the Twinblades but by his own record. There were never many places in the world willing to take in an organ dealer.
Cosmetic surgery (200 Cats)
Talking to him surfaces a fairly famous set of comic options. His surgical chisel was taken off him by the Twinblade goons, leaving only second-rate tools, but he insists that "if anyone can work miracles with a second-rate chin chisel it's gonna be Doctor Chung".
The player can put down 200 Cats and let him operate. Press him on whether that line means he thinks you are ugly, and he backpedals in a panic before starting to upsell — "some folks wanna stand out, they wanna dazzle, they wanna pop, they want people to run away in awe of their giant over-sized jumbo hands!... How about some jumbo hands?"
This is a purely comic character-appearance adjustment, and two hundred Cats is close to negligible by the late game.
Recruitment
Recruiting him requires no prerequisites and no fee; you only have to talk the conversation out to the end. Ask first about the chisel that was taken from him, then about why he does not leave the swamp, and once he has finished pouring out his troubles, pick "why don't you come with us? We could use a doctor" — and he agrees.
With you?... Heh, maybe I will! That'll really piss off those Twinblade goons when they lose their no.1 organ harvester. I can just imagine the look on their faces!
Statistics and role
| Aspect | Value |
|---|---|
| Field Medic | 39–41 |
| Science | 18 |
| Athletics | 9–11 |
| Strength / Toughness | 4–6 |
| Hackers | 4–6 |
| Melee Attack / Melee Defence | 4–6 |
| Almost everything else | 0–2 |
The figures vary by a point either way and are then multiplied by the Greenlander racial modifier. He is pure support staff: a Field Medic of forty is considerable at the opening stage of a game and effectively skips a long stretch of training, but he cannot go to the front line, and the moment he is knocked down he becomes a burden.
For equipment he wears a Cloth Shirt, Cargopants and Samurai Boots, with a Flesh Cleaver slung on his back — a tool for cutting meat rather than a weapon, and of very little combat value. He carries a Splint Kit (212 Cats) and a Basic First Aid Kit (76 Cats), usable the moment he joins.
