A giant sinkhole at the southern tip of the Ashlands with two intact domes at the bottom. One holds a hundred and twenty Stormthralls, the other holds the last emperor his own empire exiled. The hardest fight in the game, and a guaranteed five AI Cores.

Cat-Lon's Exile is a giant sinkhole at the southern tip of the Ashlands, with two intact domes standing at the bottom of it. This is the throne of Cat-Lon, last emperor of the Second Empire — and it is also his cell.
It is controlled by the Second Empire Exile faction, which is worth noticing: the four Ashland Domes belong to the "Second Empire" faction, this place belongs to the Exiles, and in the game data they are two different organisations. What is left of the imperial chain of command has broken into disconnected pieces. This is the southernmost, and the maddest.
Terrain and access
The sinkhole has exactly one way in and out: a large land ramp on the west side. Which means two things — you will not wander in by accident, and once you are in, the only exit is the way you came.
There are two ways to mark it on the map:

The Bugmaster's Map description is itself a piece of lore — covered in gibberish and pictograms, but you can piece together that the Bugmaster had been training for something. He meant to go to the Ashlands and kill someone, and it had become his obsession.
Who is here
- The first dome houses up to 120 Stormthralls. They are Skeleton No-Head MkII models in [Shoddy] Ancient Samurai Armour (50% chance of [Standard]), carrying weapons manufactured by Ancient or Skeleton Smiths.
- The second dome is where Cat-Lon sits.
Cat-Lon delivers his monologue before he attacks. The moment it ends, all 120 thralls from the other dome rush in.
While the player stays at the Exile, Cat-Lon keeps talking — one of the very few passages where the collapse of the Second Empire is narrated by the man responsible.

That the Ashland Hat and Stormgoggles blueprints turn up here is a footnote in itself — they are the signature kit of the Ashland Drifters, and the Ashland Drifters are gone.
The thing overhead
A large piece of debris hangs suspended above the sinkhole. Seen from a distance, it looks like the remnant of a space elevator.
The plausible reading is that the sinkhole is the crater that thing left, and that the structure belongs to the same family as the ringed satellites observed over The Eye and Venge.
If that is right, then the place Cat-Lon was exiled to is the hole punched by the last pillar of the old world coming down. Nobody says it out loud in the game. It is simply there on screen.

- The location was probably known during development as The Forgotten Throne.
- In an earlier version it was once named "Kami", the Japanese word for god.
What it means for the player
Cat-Lon's Exile is endgame content. Its value has three layers:
- Five guaranteed AI Cores. One of the very few places in the game that hands over AI Cores in bulk, and AI Cores are a hard gate on high-tier research.
- A Meitou Falling Sun. There is exactly one, and he is holding it.
- A real superboss fight. 120 Stormthralls plus a maxed-out emperor is not something gear alone solves — clear the field, then duel, is the only reliable answer.
