Tech Hunter RuinsReport
English:Tech Hunter Ruins · Characters
Tech Hunter scavenging parties working the three most remote ruin zones. Find one of them alone, talk for a moment, and he will escort you free of charge for twenty-four hours — in Shun, that is the only escort available at all.
All the way out in these ruins and I found company, eh? — a Tech Hunter's greeting
Tech Hunter Ruins are randomly named characters belonging to the Tech Hunters faction. They are not a separate organisation and not a mercenary company — they are the part of the faction sent furthest out to dig through ruins.
Where they are
Only three places, all far from anything civilised:
- Forbidden Isle — a small island you have to swim to, with a still-operating spider factory at its heart and Iron Spiders patrolling in squads.
- Leviathan Coast — the northernmost coast, with no towns, no bandits, only Leviathans strolling through ruins and Beak Things waiting beside them.
- Shun — the southwestern corner, six Lost Libraries and several armouries behind some of the hardest locks in the game.
They move in groups of 1–5, patrolling near ancient ruins.
Who they are
This is one of the most racially mixed character types in the game: Shek, humans (Greenlander and Scorchlander), Hivers (Soldier Drones and Princes) and Skeletons can all spawn, with a 50% female chance — an unusually high figure for Kenshi.
Equipment carries one detail worth noting: their weapons are all manufactured by Ancient, and the weapon itself is the Ringed Sabre. Armour quality is [Standard] with an 8% chance of [High], drawn from a grab bag of Mercenary Plate, Assassin's Rags, Heart Protector, Trader's Leathers and longcoats, topped with anything from a Tricorn Hat and Square Goggles to a Hachigane. They carry a Standard First Aid Kit.
Statistics fall across the board into the 15–55 band — Strength, Toughness, Dexterity, every weapon skill, melee attack and defence, turrets and precision shooting — randomised by 20 and then multiplied by racial modifiers. That means two members of the same squad can differ enormously; meeting a group of five, you do not know in advance whether you are facing filler or near-elites.
The free twenty-four hours
This is their most practical value to a player, and the reason the character type is listed separately at all.
The condition is that they be alone. When you find a single Tech Hunter Ruins near ruins, you can talk to him. Listen to what he has to say and claim you have had luck with scavenging, and he may ask to join you. Accept, and he bodyguards you free of charge for 24 hours.
The line reads:
I... just wanted some company...
One thing to watch
Shun is one of the few zones where Tech Hunters may attack the player unprovoked.
That means the same character type behaves differently by region — you can chat on the Leviathan Coast and be attacked on sight in Shun. Check your standing with the Tech Hunters before walking into those ruins, and do not assume you will be given the chance to speak.
What it means for the player
- They are mobile supply across three dead zones. Their weapons are all Ancient-manufactured, so a downed one is a decent early-to-mid-game upgrade, and none of those three regions sells anything.
- The free escort is undervalued. A 15–55 band character walking a whole ruin circuit of Shun with you is a free extra body soaking aggro — in a place populated by Security Spiders and Broken Skeletons, that is a very good deal.
- Do not treat them as enemies by default. They are neutral most of the time, and attacking them turns the entire Tech Hunters faction against you — a faction that controls several of the continent's most important supply towns.
