Skeleton ResidentReport

English:Skeleton Resident · Characters

The ordinary population of Black Desert City. They carry the widest stat spread of any NPC on this site: a randomise value of 20 means some of them are competent mechanics and some have negative Robotics, which makes their own repairs worse.

Skeleton Residents are the ordinary inhabitants of Black Desert City. That city sits under the acid rain of the Deadlands and is the headquarters of the Skeleton faction. Its population comes in two kinds: Skeleton Civilians, who staff the robotics shop, and Skeleton Residents, who are everyone else.

What a randomise value of 20 means

This is the fact worth writing down. The FCS gives these NPCs a stat randomisation of 20, far above the 4 to 10 typical of hostile units. The result is an absurd spread between individuals sharing one name.

FieldRange
Strength, Toughness, Dexterity40–80
Weapon skills, Melee Attack and Defence40–80
Heavy Weapons, Turrets48–96
Precision Shooting, Field Medic, Athletics, Swimming40–80
Dodge-11.2–20.8
Martial Arts-14–26
Perception, Crossbows, Lockpicking, Engineer-19–21
Stealth, Thievery-15.2–16.8
Robotics-22.8–25.2
Assassinationfixed at 30
Science, Crossbow Smith, Labouring, Farming, Cookingfixed at 1

The bottom rows say the most about the city. Farming and Cooking are pinned at 1 because Black Desert City has no food supply chain and nobody there eats. Neither skill has any use to a single resident.

Robotics can come out negative

The floor of the Robotics column is -22.8. Skeletons use that skill to repair themselves and each other, and a negative skill means the action works against them. They make the damage worse.

So there are, in fact, skeletons walking the streets of Black Desert City who cannot repair themselves, and who are carrying a Skeleton Repair Kit while they do it. The game never writes this as a story beat. It is just what a randomise value of 20 produces. In a city that stays alive by self-repair, it reads badly all the same.

Equipment

The weapons are the Falling Sun and the Plank, both heavy weapons, which matches the Heavy Weapons skill being raised to 48–96. They carry a Skeleton Repair Kit.

Note how short the list is. There is no armour row. Skeleton Residents are not guards and are not built to fight.

What they say

Black Desert City is one of the central sites of Kenshi lore research. The conversations about resets, about Cat-Lon going mad, about the Shek once being called Enforcers, all come out of the mouths of the city's skeletons. The Skeleton Resident entry carries a string ID from the Dialogue module, making it one of the carriers of that dialogue.

NoteI cannot attribute individual lines to Skeleton Residents rather than Skeleton Civilians from the data I have. The city's skeleton dialogue is shared and both NPC types deliver it. Establishing who says a given line means triggering it on a specific NPC in game.

How complete the source is

NoteThe Skeleton Resident page on Fandom is tagged Work in Progress and is incomplete. Faction relations, spawn numbers and whether they are hostile are simply not recorded there, so they are not recorded here either. In practice Black Desert City is open to visitors who can survive the acid rain, but that is a statement about the city, not about this NPC type.
