Red is a unique recruit who wanders the streets of Bark. Her personality is Brave.
Under the face-obscuring Straw Hat and the rags she has bright red hair — quite possibly the source of the nickname.
She robs you first
Red's recruitment is one of the strangest sequences in the game, because she starts it.
When both of the following hold, she has a chance to pick the player's pocket as soon as you are in talking range:
- The player is carrying more than 200 Cats
- The player's squad is smaller than 5
Once the money is gone, you can talk to her immediately to demand it back. This is the decisive moment: choose the non-aggressive dialogue options and the conversation eventually arrives at asking her to join. She returns the stolen money once she is in your squad.
She can also just run
There is a ceiling: if the player is carrying more than 100,000 Cats and more than one backpack, Red will not join — she runs away instead.
It reads like a joke, but the design is sound. A pickpocket with nothing looks at an obviously wealthy caravan and does not think join; she thinks stay away. Be rich enough and she will not go with you.

Her combat value is essentially nil, but Stealth 20 out of the gate is genuinely usable in the early game — she was never meant to be a fighter. She also carries a colour scheme, so her armour and clothing take dye.
