Reaver SlaveReport

English:Reaver Slave · Characters

Meat shields conscripted by the Reavers. In the data they belong to the Vagrants faction rather than the Reavers themselves — the game marks them as not yet theirs. Unshackle one and you can recruit them, but the ones in cages almost never join.

I'm surrounded by psychopaths... Oh god I'm surrounded by psychopaths... — Meatshield

Reaver Slaves are what the Reavers call their unreliable whelps. In the data they belong to the Vagrants faction rather than to the Reavers — which is to say, the game marks them as not yet theirs.

What they are for

You see them in two settings:

Getting them out

Like other slaves, they can become Slave Recruits once freed from their Prisoner Shackles or their Prisoner Cage.

A fight also works: if you can defeat their masters before killing the slaves, they have a chance to join you outright.

NoteWatch your swings once the fight is over. It is very easy to land one extra hit in the confusion — and that hit destroys the recruitment chance.

The caged ones almost never join

This is the detail that makes it painful in practice.

ImportantBecause of an apparent bug, slaves with the Maniacal personality get stuck in their cages and never attempt to join. In effect only Honorable or Smart slaves will come with you.

And Reaver Slaves draw from the 'bandit types' personality table — a table that never yields Honorable, only rarely yields Smart, and distributes every other personality evenly. The result is that recruiting one out of a Reaver camp cage is very hard indeed.

TipFreeing them by killing their patrolling masters is unaffected by this. If your goal is recruitment rather than clearing a particular camp, intercepting patrols is far more productive than assaulting the camp.

Combat statistics

Every skill lands in the 10–30 band with Assassination at 10, and figures randomise by ±10 — a swing wider than the base value itself, so individuals can differ noticeably.

Trivia

The Reavers also call them "whelps", but Whelp is separately a rank of its own in the Reaver hierarchy — the lowest formal member, already broken in. The two are not the same tier.
