MegacrabReport
English:Megacrab · Creatures
There is exactly one of these in the world, squatting in the Lost Town of the Howler Maze. It carries nearly fourteen hundred blood, sees only half as far as a normal animal, drops about fifteen thousand cats' worth of unique trophy, and never respawns.
The Megacrab is one of the biggest Crabs in Kenshi and a unique individual — there is only one in the world, it lives in the ruins of Lost Town in the Howler Maze, and it does not respawn once killed.
The Wiki is deliberately non-committal about its relationship to the ruins: the crab's presence here might explain the destruction of the town, or the ruins may simply predate the crabs. The game gives no answer.
Where it is
The Howler Maze is an island tied to the mainland by a few land bridges that sit under water. Apart from crabs and crab nests, all it holds are the Second Empire ruins of Archive Town and Lost Town.
Lost Town is a large ruin of multiple buildings, one of which contains a library with high-end loot, with mid-to-low tier loot scattered elsewhere. It also holds several crab nests — and the Megacrab.
In other words, the thing you came for and the thing you are afraid of are in the same place.
Combat threat
| Statistic | Megacrab |
|---|---|
| Melee Attack | 50 |
| Strength | 50 |
| Dexterity | 60 |
| Toughness | 50 |
| Martial Arts | 60 |
| Blood | 898–1,369 |
| Health per body part | 660–1,023 |
| Speed | 6–13 mph (x1 in combat) |
| Vision range multiplier | 0.5 |
| Bleed rate | 0.4 |
| Extra attack slots | 1 |
Its damage profile is the standard crab one, cut-focused with 10 points of piercing built in:
- Cut = 23 + roughly 0.88–0.91 x (Martial Arts + Dexterity)
- Blunt = a modest contribution from Martial Arts and Strength
What makes it hard is not the damage, it is the health pool. Nearly fourteen hundred blood with six hundred to a thousand per body part is not something an early squad chews through — you run out of stamina first.
It also has two very visible holes:
- A vision range multiplier of 0.5. It sees barely anything. Hugging walls and routing around it will usually let you clean out the library building without ever waking it.
- 6–13 mph, no combat speed bonus, and only one extra attack slot. It cannot catch a person, and it can only be engaged by a limited number of characters at once — which makes it one of the most kiteable large targets in the game.
Drops and use
| Item | Quantity | Average price |
|---|---|---|
| Megacrab Ganglion | 5 | about 3,000 Cats each |
| Raw Meat | 10 | 60 Cats |
| Foul Raw Meat | 20 | 1 Cat |
The Megacrab Ganglion is the only valuable thing on the body and the only reason to make the trip — five of them come to roughly 15,000 Cats. The item description is reluctant about itself:
Some kind of organ or something that was inside the Megacrab. Whatever it is it's probably worth a bit of money.
It has no use other than selling. As for the twenty Foul Raw Meat at 1 Cat each, the weight costs more to haul than the meat is worth.
Not the only one
Megacrab Ganglions are not exclusive to this crab. The Crab Raiders' Crab Tournament sends four similarly enormous unique crabs to attack a player base, each carrying five ganglions of their own:
| Round | Giant crab | Escort |
|---|---|---|
| Crab Tournament | Titus | 8–12 Crab Raiders + 10 Crabs |
| Crab Quarter Finals | Barnabus | 12–15 + 10 |
| Crab Semi Finals | Mr Gigantus | 14–21 + 15 |
| Crab Tournament Final | The Crabinator | 20–25 + 15 |
In other words, rather than travelling to the Howler Maze to kill one, you can sit in your own base and have four delivered — and winning the final round grants an alliance with the Crab Raiders.
Age stages
It matures more slowly than almost anything else in the game:
- Teen (x0.40) — 40 days
- Adult (x0.60) — 60 days
- Elder (x1.10) — 110 days
