Green FingerReport

English:Green Finger · Characters

A farmer who has had enough of living next door to the Cannibals, and the best value cheap recruit in the game — 2,000 Cats buys Farming 40, Labouring 40 and Engineer 25.

Green Finger is a recruitable unique character costing 2,000 Cats, found in the Fishing Village. The character has a 30% chance of spawning female, so the Green Finger you meet may differ in gender from one save to the next.

Someone who wants to move to the river and farm

Green Finger is a farmer, and the problem is a simple one: home is far too close to the Cannibals. Having had enough of that life, the plan is to move into the Holy Nation and work the fertile land along the river Wend.

The wish is itself a quiet piece of irony. Green Finger is a Scorchlander — and the Holy Nation treats Scorchlanders as a lesser race, shipping any it catches off to the labour camp at Rebirth. The place this character wants to go is precisely the place least willing to have them.

TipThe Scorchlander race carries a farming penalty, and Scorchlanders almost never turn up among the Rebel Farmers or the Holy Nation's agricultural population. Green Finger is the rare exception — a character whose race is written as "should not be farming", who has nonetheless trained Farming to 40.

The personality is set to Fearful, which fits both the occupation and the motive of fleeing the Cannibals rather well.

Why this is the best bargain going

What Green Finger is best known for is a price wildly out of proportion to the ability:

ItemValue
Farming40
Labouring40
Engineer25
Strength18
Other skillsalmost all 1

The comparison makes the point: Chad, the veteran brawler, asks 9,000; Jewel, who can only cook, asks 6,000; and Green Finger, a dual specialist in engineering and farming, asks 2,000.

There is a structural reason for the mispricing. Kenshi runs "paid recruitment" and "conditional recruitment" as two separate systems, and the listed price reflects which of the two a character was written into rather than what they are actually worth. Green Finger simply landed in the cheap one.

Practical role

Green Finger's combat statistics are 1 across the board: weapon skills, attack and defence, physical attributes, dodge — nothing at all. This is not a combatant, and taking Green Finger into a fight means watching them die instantly.

But for a player preparing to build an outpost, this is the single best purchase available at the start of a run. Farming and Labouring at 40 mean the fields and mines run at full speed from the day of arrival; Engineer at 25 means immediate competence with wind generators, wells and the maintenance work that sits outside construction research; and Strength 18 makes for a better hauler than the average new recruit. For 2,000 Cats, this is buying the early-game efficiency of an entire production line outright.
