MegacityReport
English:Megacity · Factions
A faction that does nothing. It spawns no characters, patrols nothing, and you cannot change your standing with it. It owns one empty village, and everything it left behind is in two diary pages in the bar.
Megacity is an empty shell on Kenshi's faction list. It spawns no characters, so it patrols no zone; you cannot make it like you or hate you, and no World State touches it. Exactly one location is registered to its name: Ghost Village.
Which means you will never meet a member of this faction. The only reason it exists is so that the empty village still has an owner in the data.
They named themselves
"Megacity" is not a name later survivors gave the place. It is the goal those people set for themselves when they moved onto the Northern Coast. They were already talking about the next empire while the walls were still going up.
The two entries of Mega City: The Beginning in the bar are written by the same hand.
The first was written just after they settled, and it reads like a progress report: walls up, buildings reinforced, turrets calibrated. The author lists the reasons they chose this spot — water to fish, hills to break the wind — and is proudest of the fact that there is no Holy Nation here, no Empire, nobody to tell them what to do. As for the Cannibals downhill, he writes them off as a couple of backward tribes who are more frightened of him than he is of them, armed with nothing better than shit-covered sticks. He is already planning to take a few as free labour, to get the next empire up faster.
The second was written a few weeks later. Villagers have started disappearing one at a time, and the author has an explanation ready for every one of them: those two eloped, those three got lost in the hills looking for fruit. He sums the whole thing up as survival of the fittest and concludes that without the fools, the next empire will only be stronger.
The diary stops at two entries.
What the faction is for
Kenshi almost never narrates its own history; the past of most places has to be reconstructed on site. Megacity is one of the few cases where the full chain of cause and effect survives, and what survives is two self-assessments written at different times. The error in the first is still uncorrected in the second. That is the part that stings.
The end of the village is written on the ground: the houses are empty and not one item inside them has been taken. What the Cannibals came for was never the property.
Relationship to Deadcat
In the data, Ghost Village is held by two factions at once: Deadcat and Megacity. Deadcat is another group who lost their capital to the Cannibals and ended up fishing along the coast.
The two ended the same way, but the game never states whether they are related, and no text describes the Megacity settlers as Deadcat people. Sharing one village may be nothing more than a data-layer convenience. This cannot currently be established either way.
