Expedition 5Report

English:Expedition 5 · Locations

The camp the Tech Hunters built on their fifth push south, now a partially ruined town with components littering the ground. It is physical proof of how far they got — and of the four expeditions before it, only one left anything behind.

Expedition 5 is a ruin in Stobe's Gamble, found east of Spring and south of the Reaver Camp.

It looks much like Expedition 4: a partially ruined town with a lot of components lying on the ground around the buildings.

What happened here

The settlement was created by the Tech Hunters during their fifth expedition south.

The Tech Hunters are a small organisation that lives by digging through ancient ruins. They pushed south because the south holds an entire unsifted Second Empire inheritance — and because the south is also Reaver country, landbat country, acid-lake country. The Expedition 5 camp sits exactly on that boundary: Spring to the north, a Reaver camp not far to the south.

The site is referenced in Tech Hunter's Notes: The Ashlands — meaning this was a documented operation, not scenery placed at random.

And the first four?

The number 5 implies four attempts before it.

But only the fourth expedition left an observable abandoned settlement in the game. What happened on the first three, how far they got, whether anyone came back — none of that is ever stated.

NoteThis is Kenshi's storytelling at its most characteristic: a single number tells you four things happened, and then explains none of them. What you can actually visit is two empty camps.

Why the player cares

Expedition 5 has no shops, no guards and no special loot table — the components on the ground are all of it.

Its value is elsewhere. This is a landmark. Reaching it means you have passed Spring and pushed south into Stobe's Gamble; further south is Reaver territory, and below that, the Ashlands. That the Tech Hunters pitched a camp here and then abandoned it is itself a warning.
