DrinReport
English:Drin · Locations
A half-ruined barrack settlement in Bast. It may once have been one of the region's trade towns before the Holy Nation burned it, and the United Cities have since repurposed it into the largest military outpost in Bast - the bar, though, is the old one.
Drin is a semi-ruined barrack settlement belonging to the United Cities, in the Bast region. The game files it under Ruins, but it is not an empty shell: there is a sizable garrison of UC samurai stationed here, along with a bar.
For a player, Drin is one of the few places in Bast's frozen battlefield where Imperial order still holds and there is something to drink. You can find it by travelling, or reveal it by acquiring and reading the Map of the United Cities (Central Territories).
History: from trade town to barracks
The History of Kenshi describes what Bast used to be:
Bast was once a prosperous and fertile area, filled with many farmlands and towns for trading.
And what happened to it:
However, everything changed when the Holy Nation attacked, who proceeded to burn towns and farms to the ground.
Drin was very likely one of those trade towns. Its destruction is generally attributed to the Holy Nation's initial invasion of Bast, or to the stalemate that followed.
The difference is that Drin was not left where it fell, the way Bast itself was. The United Cities partially recovered the site and converted it into a military outpost, taken over and repurposed by Imperial samurai. But the old bar was kept. What stands today is half ruin, half barracks, plus a drinking hole older than the settlement's current purpose.
The heart of Bast's patrols
Drin is not merely a place with soldiers in it — it is where the Empire stations and organises much of its patrolling across Bast.
This is visible in the game data: Drin's status is tied to Lord Inaba and Emperor Tengu, and correlates directly with homeless patrol spawns throughout the region. In other words, how many Imperial troops a player runs into out in the Bast wastes is, to a real degree, decided by this half-wrecked barracks.
Town overrides
Drin can be affected by several World States:
| Override | What it looks like |
|---|---|
| The Holy Nation | The site passes into Holy Nation hands |
| Destroyed | The settlement is wrecked outright |
Both options are simply Drin's own history replayed: it has already been burned by the Holy Nation once, and it is already half-ruined. The game just puts the same two endings back on the table.
