Disheartened SkeletonReport

English:Disheartened Skeleton · Characters

A randomly named Skeleton mercenary in the Shark bar, 6,000 Cats to hire. He is not guaranteed to spawn, but what he says about that town is the coldest observation in the game.

Most of the settlers in this city are refugees of cruelty in one form or another. Enslavement or exile, mostly... Yet the majority of them use their freedom to victimise other victims. And so cruelty breeds cruelty, an infinite cycle. A disquieting glimpse into human behaviour.

The Disheartened Skeleton is a randomly named unique recruit working as a mercenary. He is found in Shark and can be hired for 6,000 Cats.

What he says

That quote is where this character's weight lies.

Shark is the outlaw city at the centre of the Swamp, populated by people who ran from something — slavery, exile, judgement. In principle it is a free place. This Skeleton looked around the bar and concluded that the first thing they did with their freedom was find the next set of victims.

He is not insulting anyone. He is reporting an observation, and he explicitly writes himself out of it — "a disquieting glimpse into human behaviour". Skeletons are not human. He is the one standing outside, looking in.

He is not guaranteed

Two things to be clear about:

  1. He appears in Shark regardless of world state — whichever faction currently controls the Swamps, he can be there.
  2. He is not guaranteed to spawn. He is one of many potential recruits the city can roll.

Finding him means checking the bar more than once.

After recruiting

His skill sheet is flat: almost everything is 5, with Athletics at 10 and Science at 0, randomised by 3.

Strength / Dexterity5
Melee Attack / Melee Defence5
Katanas / Sabres / Hackers / Heavy Weapons / Blunt / Polearms5 each

He spawns with no apparel at all, carries an Unknown-manufacturer Wakizashi on the hip, and one Skeleton Repair Kit.

He uses the "Player SKELETON" dialogue package, so once recruited he speaks Skeleton-specific lines.

TipSkeleton squadmates are maintained differently from humans: they do not eat, but injuries need Skeleton Repair Kits or a repair bed. Make sure you can supply that before buying him.
