BurnReport
English:Burn · Characters
A retired Skeleton adventurer standing guard outside a ruined tower in the Floodlands, and one of the easiest Skeleton companions in the game to obtain; what he is waiting for is one last trip before he shuts down.
Burn is a Skeleton standing outside his own tower, waiting for someone to talk to him. He puts it plainly: if you are a bandit, he has to strike first, or the tower comes down.
"If you're a robber or a bandit, then I'll have to deal with you before you destroy me and take my tower. The spider bots keep most intruders out, but one or two always slip through, you know? …So, which are you?"
An adventurer waiting to shut down
Burn describes himself as a retired adventurer who gave it up because "the years caught up". Skeletons do not die of age, but they wear down until repair is no longer possible — and Burn is philosophical about it. All he wants is one more run before he powers down for good. That is also the entire condition for recruiting him: talk to him, pick the right reply, and pay nothing at all.
He is one of the easiest Skeletons in the game to get hold of. For a squad that has no Skeleton member yet, the barrier is absurdly low: Skeletons do not eat, cannot be poisoned and do not fear acid rain, and their only drawback is needing a Skeleton Repair Kit or a repair bed to be patched up — and Burn happens to be carrying a repair kit himself.
Burn's Tower
The tower stands in the northern Floodlands and counts as a ruin-type location. Inside is a decent haul: books, copper alloy plates, CPU Units (avg. around 6,000 Cats) and the like, about 15 items in total, refreshed every 24 hours, plus an "artifact" generation allowance worth roughly 15,000 Cats. For a player picking up their first Skeleton, the crucial item is the Skeleton Repair Kit that always spawns inside.
The spider robots outside the tower keep most unwanted visitors away from him, and double as a training ground — they respawn endlessly, which makes them ideal punching bags for raising a Skeleton's Toughness and melee skills.
Stats and equipment
His attributes and skills sit roughly in the 13–17 band (randomised ±2 on spawn), with Heavy Weapons and Turrets slightly higher at about 15.6–20.4. Perception, Dodge and Lockpicking come in around −1 to 3, which is to say nonexistent. Given the Skeleton racial bonuses, this is an "usable early, needs field experience by the mid game" level of character.
His starting kit is decidedly shabby: his main weapon is a Rusted Junk or a Rusting Blade at even odds, with a Long Cleaver always slung on his back; he wears Armoured Rags or a rag shirt on top and tattered shorts or an Armoured Rag Skirt below, Shoddy grade ninety-five per cent of the time.
Trivia
One dialogue branch in the game forgets to check the race of the character being addressed, which lets Burn say to another Skeleton: "Skeletons don't break as easily as skeletons like you, but we do have our limits in the end." — a line that ties itself in a knot.
