BarnabusReport
English:Barnabus · Characters
The megacrab the Crab Raiders send to the second round of the "Crab Tournament", carrying five Megacrab Ganglions worth 15,000 Cats.
Barnabus is one of the few named crabs in the Crab Raiders faction. He appears on no map anywhere — the player meets him at the gate of their own outpost, and only once.
When he turns up
The Crab Raiders regard the player as a fellow crab-keeper. Provided a patrol sights a player character inside a player-built outpost, relations between the two sides are below 50, and the Crab Queen is still on her throne, a chain of raid events called the Crab Tournament begins. The tournament runs four rounds, each anchored by a named megacrab:
| Round | Force | Anchor megacrab |
|---|---|---|
| First round | 8–12 raiders, 10 crabs | Titus |
| Quarter-final | 12–15 raiders, 10 crabs | Barnabus |
| Semi-final | 14–21 raiders, 15 crabs | Mr Gigantus |
| Final | 20–25 raiders, 15 crabs | The Crabinator |
Barnabus is therefore the second named megacrab the player faces in the tournament. Beat him and the semi-final follows; lose and you are not really eliminated, because the system simply schedules a "resit round" and lets you start over.
Why he is so large
Barnabus's base statistics are not in themselves extravagant: Melee Attack, Melee Defence, Strength, Toughness and Athletics are all 50, with Dexterity and Martial Arts at 60. What actually makes him awkward is the age multiplier — on spawning he is given a random growth multiplier of 0.20x to 0.60x, which leaves him visibly larger than the crabs and raiders he arrives with, and usually the strongest fighter in the whole raiding party.
Other constitution figures on record: 898–1,369 HP, a bleed rate of 0.4, a heal rate of 1, a hunger rate of 2, a vision range multiplier of only 0.5, 1 extra attack slot, and a movement speed of 6–13 mph. All seven body parts (head, chest, stomach and the four limbs) have 660–1,023 durability each, with the head and chest carrying the highest hit weighting.
How to fight him
The steadier method is to mount harpoon turrets directly in front of the outpost gate, keeping people on gate repairs while everything else concentrates fire. The difficulty is that the raiders tend to bunch up at the gate and get shoved through it, so it is still worth keeping a trained melee group waiting behind the door.
The terrain in Crab Raider territory is also rough and rocky, and large crabs snag on it easily; if a raid drags on and refuses to end, Barnabus is usually stuck somewhere along the way, and you will have to leave the outpost and go clear him yourself.
What he is worth
Barnabus is one of the characters built around the "death item" mechanic: he carries 5 Megacrab Ganglions at an average of 3,000 Cats apiece, which is 15,000 Cats from that one item alone, plus Raw Meat ×10 (60 Cats each) and Foul Raw Meat ×20 (1 Cat each).
