Ashland Dome RuinReport

English:Ashland Dome Ruin · Locations

Two collapsed domes in the Ashlands. No inhabitants, no loot, nothing spawns — and yet an Old Treasure Map will still mark them, as though this place was worth the trip not long ago.

The Ashland Dome Ruin is an ancient location in the Ashlands. There are two of them: the Eastern Ashland Dome Ruin and the Western Ashland Dome Ruin.

The most important sentence first:

NoteThis location has no inhabitants and spawns no loot. Both ruins are empty.

Then why does a map mark it

That is the interesting part.

An Old Treasure Map has a 5% chance of putting an Ashland Dome Ruin on your world map — the same slot shared by Crumbling Labs, the Scraphouse and the Island Lab, all of which actually contain something.

In other words, whoever drew that treasure map thought this place was worth visiting. By the time you arrive, whatever was worth taking is gone.

This is Kenshi's storytelling in miniature: no cutscene, just an out-of-date map that walks you out to an empty patch of ash.

What they used to be

Several intact Ashland Domes still stand in the region — Ashland Dome I through IV — and each houses a senior figure of the Second Empire.

From that the wiki draws an inference: the placement of these two ruins, relative to the intact domes, is too neat to be accidental. It is plausible that two more high-ranking officers of the defunct Second Empire once lived in them and vanished when the buildings came down.

The alternative is simply that these two domes were always scenery.

Why the player cares

Practically, not at all — there is no reason to go.

But if you are going to look: the Ashlands are where the Second Empire's capital rotted rather than fell, and the Skeleton Legion still patrols a country that no longer exists. Two collapsed domes are the footnote to that sentence. Two people once rated a dome here, and there is no longer any way to find out who they were.
