English:Harbinger · Characters
An unused character who exists only inside the FCS editor. He opens by demanding to speak to your pathetic leader, yet wears no armour at all; one reading holds that he is a leftover outpost raider from the old map era.
Harbinger is an unused Kenshi character who can only be dug out of the official editor, the FCS (Forgotten Construction Set). He does not spawn in any normal playthrough, and no outpost or faction takes him in.
Attention Peasants! I demand to speak with your pathetic leader!
What he was meant to do
Judging by the tone of that line and by the structure of the files, Harbinger was most likely meant to trigger outpost or watchtower raid events — the sort of character who marches up to the gates of the player's base with a crew at his back, shouts his demands, and starts swinging once the negotiation collapses. In the finished game that role is filled by each faction's extortionists and raid captains, and since Harbinger was never assigned to a faction, there is no way left to establish which side he belonged to.
Peculiar statistics
What makes this character worth discussing is his stat block. Harbinger is a Greenlander whose Strength, Dexterity and six weapon skills all sit at just 19 to 21, with a variance of only ±1, and whose Toughness is a mere 0 to 2.
Consider what Toughness 0 amounts to: a character like that drops after one or two hits, and once down is extremely likely to lose limbs or die outright. Paired with an equipment set of no armour whatsoever and a single pair of ragged shorts, he could not beat a wandering bandit in the shipped version of Kenshi, let alone stride up and demand an audience with the owner of a base.
His four weapons are at least somewhat interesting: a Horse Chopper, a Topper, a Katana and a Ringed Sabre, all produced by the Ancient manufacturer — scavenged odds and ends from the old days, in other words.
A relic of the Old World
Kenshi players use "Old World" for the version that predates the wholesale overhaul of the map. The wiki's inference runs like this: given how low Harbinger's numbers are, and the way his dialogue files are named, he was very probably designed for the Old World and dropped altogether when the map was remade.
There is circumstantial support. Old World characters generally had low numbers, because the combat and progression curves of the time were entirely different; when everything was revised upward, the characters that were not carried over simply stayed at the old standard. The developers never said as much, however, so this remains community inference rather than settled fact.
